Backup While You Can!

While you are reading this, 10 out of 1,000 computers will fail in there regular operations. Those 10 company owners will pay anywhere between $70 - $17,000 recovering that information. Why so much? Data recovery is not cheap. Data recovery experts can cost $65-$150 per hour...and more.

Many things can cause your hard drive to fail. The most common is just plain old age. Most business computers are 5-6 years old...the age most drives to start going sour. Typically, hard drives come with a manufactures' warranty to last at least 3-5 years.

The longer you ignore your backups, the more you will pay in the end.

A little bed time story:

1.

Your computer goes dead at 2 a.m.
2. You go crazy for 5 hours waiting for computer store to open. Had you backed up yesterday, you probably could salvage most of your data, but you didn't. Now, is your data safe? Maybe, maybe not. The story continues...
3.

The computer shop finally opens and you are there fast as lightening.

4.
The computer tech tells you the words you want to hear. "Oh I'm sure I can fix it...probably a simple virus. I will call you with how bad it is in about an hour."
5. An hour goes by, and you get the call. Dreaded words come from the phone. "I'm sorry, the hard drive is dead. You need to replace it."
6. Two things will happen. First, you will pay a tech to recover your data. Second you will buy a new hard drive. Cost to you: a lot of time, a lot of money and other unforeseeable problems and setbacks.

Can't happen to you?

That particular case happened to a client of mine, and it happens every day. So, take the time backup your information . There are many ways to backup. An easy, cost effective way is CDRW, or buy a tape backup device.

It is really true: time is money, and not backing up can cost you a lot of both.

Talk to you soon...same time, same channel,
